Noguchi Takuro Exhibition

Sep. 20[Thurs.]―Sep. 29[Sat.], 2018 11:00-19:00
Gallery open all days of exhibition.

After graduating from Kyoto University of Art and Design Department of Painting, Noguchi Takuro worked for one year as an assistant to photographer Tomatsu Shomei, then in 2001 returned to his hometown of Nishijin to undergo training to continue as the fifth head of his family’s gold thread shop, Hakuya Noguchi. Since then, using foil techniques which have been passed down through generations of artisans, he has been building a new kind of artistic expression from lacquer and haku. His seemingly collaged “Landscape” series, his series with the motif of fireworks, those sceneries of the sea and sky, sunsets, starlit skies - in this works Noguchi expresses a “beauty” from which shines the light of hope. Toki-no-Wasuremono will now hold our third Noguchi exhibition, following those in 2012 and 2014. This time we will present 13 works centering on his new “Landscape” and his sea and sky series.

On Sep. 22 (Sat.) 17:00~, we will host an opening with the artist in attendance.

The artist will be present at the gallery every day.

■ Takuro NOGUCHI (1975-)
Born 1975 in Kyoto, Japan, Noguchi graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Kyoto University of Art and Design in 1993. From 2000-2001, he worked as an assistant for the photographer Shomei Tomatsu. As a 5th generation descendant of a family of foil craftsmen in the Nishijin district of Kyoto, Noguchi returned to his birthplace in 2001 to prepare for succeeding the family business. Since then, he has also launched his career as a 'hakuga' artist - the term 'hakuga' meaning that Noguchi creates paintings with lacquer and foil.

Noguchi was awarded the Grand Prix of the Amuse Artist Audition in Kyoto in 2002. Since his first solo exhibition in 2004, he has participated in the 29th Grand Prix of The UENO Royal Museum Exhibition in 2011, and his works were shown in a multitude of solo and group exhibitions.
