Toki-no-Wasuremono will hold a group exhibition of three selected artists.

After graduating from art school, NEGISHI Fumiko moved to Spain to create warm works full of humor. This exhibition shows works drawn on silk.

UDA Yoshihisa explores large environmental themes of river flow and the water cycle in his series "aquarium".

TSURI Mitsuho uses a method of hand coiling to create pottery that looks almost like knitwork.

We hope you enjoy the works by these three artists unique use of method and color.

NEGISHI Fumiko 【Statement】
Silk is a material that is supple, weighty, and has a strange radiance.
It's a wonderful treasure born in China in the distant past that crossed borders, oceans, and reached Japan.
Silk, which has been held in esteem by man for some thousands of years.
I am the result of long flow of time up to this moment, and I will be a part of whatever may happen in the future.
On this treasure of silk I create works searching for the stirring world hidden in memories of a time before I was born, and beauty, in the hopes that I can share them with as many people as possible.
I draw directly on the silk.
There's no room for error, so I make each brushstroke with the utmost care.
Success cannot be understood until it's obtained.
Human beings are the same way.
I work every day to try to make concrete the utopia in my mind on the surface of the silk.
I believe that daily work is the only possible way to glimpse that utopia.

UDA Yoshihisa 【Statement】
The title of this series, "aquarium", expresses the similarity between us, for whom its harder and harder to survive in the summers without air conditioning, and the tropical fish who can't live outside of an aquarium with tightly controlled water quality and temperatures. As if they've already perished, the water on the image contains no fish. Clear, beautiful water is at times deadly poison that can host not even a microbe.

The clouds that float in from the sea to become rain that brings water to the land have raised many forms of life. This is a massive system of nature that has repeated itself long before the birth of mankind. However, now, as man continues to violate the global environment, many lifeforms face the brink of extinction. We live in a contradiction wherein we receive the gifts of nature, but must continue to violate it. In recent years, as we are threatened by golbal warming and catastrophic weather, there are times it feels as if the earth is rejecting us. Perhaps the works I have been making these past few years with themes of "water" and "weather" originate in these sad ideas.

TSURI Mitsuho 【Statement】
I explore ways of expression that come from reevaluating and changing the scale of everyday objects and how things are made.
I use string making, a primitive method of pottery, and stretch clay until its long and twist it together to build forms.
I compile memories of daily life in the accumulation of my work hours, and try to bring together a strange image closeby my brightly colored pottery.
I would be happy if my works make you feel the fun of daily life and the universal joy of creating.
