Kuramata Shiro (1934-1991), who from the mid-1960s presented pioneering works in commercial space and furniture, product and design. Volumes 1, 2, and 3 of "Shiro Kuramata Cahier", a collection of silkscreens of rare sketches left behind by Kuramata, as well as "Cabinet de Curiosite", a design from his serious endeavors in tinted acrylic in 1989, flower vases, and other works will be on display at our booth. On this occasion, we will also publish "Shiro Kuramata Cahier 1-2" (ed. 365, 2023, Watanuki Ltd | Toki-no-Wasuremono). This limited edition catalogue includes images of the 10 works in both Cahier 1 and 2, as well as an essay by Horie Toshiyuki and a transcript of the "words" left by Kuramata Shiro in his two volumes of "NOTE BOOK" and "Sketch" in the 1980s.
For our second display, Haguri Takeshi (b. 1957) has created his largest work yet, the 2m25cm wood scultpure " Otokogi - Kon". This impressive piece uses camphor wood in the traditional "yosekizukuri" or joint block constructin technique and is hand painted in fine detail by Haguri's protege, Nagasaki Miki.
We will also have several works by Q
Ei (1911-1960), the pioneer of the Japanese Avant-garde whose solo
exhibition we brought last year to Art Basel Miami Beach. You will see
beautiful pointillist paintings created in his final years, as well as rare
hand colored pieces of photo-dessin, a medium through which he created over
2000 works throughout his life.
