This year's Art Fair Asia Fukuoka will feature works by internationally acclaimed architects, as well as young artists who are expected to become more and more active in the future.
Among these architects whose works are the specialty of Toki-no-Wasuremono are Le Corbusier, master of modern architecture; and Isozaki Arata, a world-renowned architect from Oita prefecture who has left many buildings in Kyushu.
There will be also exhibited drawings and prints from the Pritzker prize winner, Maki Fumihiko, who sadly passed away June of this year; in addition to Ando Tadao, whose designs are characterized by the use of fair-faced concrete and light and shadow.
Moreover, there will be a pinhole camera object from the young architect Sato Kengo, selected in a competition of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and he is currently active in various fields, including the design of a satellite studio,
and “Shiro Kuramata Cahier 4," a collection of prints based on the sketches of the world-renowned designer Kuramata Shiro, which was shown in large-scale retrospectives at museums in Tokyo, Toyama, and Kyoto from last year to this year, and other objects will also be on display.
The exhibition will also be showcasing paintings and objects from Ay-O who created "Rainbow" and Shiomi Mieko, two artists who participated in the Fluxus group of artists that transcended the boundaries of music, poetry, art, and film.
Drawings by Matsumoto Shunsuke, a painter who died young and left a huge mark on the history of modern and contemporary Japanese art; photo drawings by Ei-Q, a pioneer of avant-garde art from Miyazaki prefecture; both will be exhibited.
The exhibition will be also introducing oil paintings and woodblock prints by Uchima Ansei, an American-born woodblock print artist whose parents were born in Okinawa, and Ryukyuan paintings by Okinawa resident Nizoe Marina, whose theme is "paradise of flowers and birds in Ryukyu paintings".

AFAF is an international art fair sustaining, since 2015, the long-lasting tradition in Fukuoka of openness to artistic and cultural exchanges with Asia.
For the ninth year in a row, the fair will be held for a duration of four days from September 19th to September 22nd, 2024 at the locally acclaimed Fukuoka International Center in Hakata.
With the support of Fukuoka City via the "Fukuoka Art Next" initiative and Culture Vision Japan, a transagency association, we aim to host a space of co-creation, synergy and diversity, engaging various media and participants.
This year, we will welcome our visitors in a venue especially designed as an opportunity for exchange between artists from Japan and other Asian countries.
AFAF will be collaborating with museums, universities, private businesses, and art fairs in Japan and abroad, in order to encourage the development of Asian contemporary art.
We hope to further develop the ever-flourishing social and logistical hub of diverse interactions between Japan and the rest of Asia that Fukuoka has been for centuries, through engaging and vibrant contemporary art.
