Katayama was born 1965 in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture. She graduated in 1990 from the printmaking course at Kyoto City University of Arts. Her works were feature in the 1991 Shiseido Calendar. Katayama participated in the collection exhibition of the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Modern Art in 2004 and won the Grand Prix for Contemporary Printmaking as well as the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art Award and others.

Her works are held at the Osaka Center of Modern Art, the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Art, Osaka.
