Kiyoyuki KATO |
Born in Seto in 1931. Despite being from a tile-making family, during his school years he became much more interested in painting than in earthenware. KATO was selected to exhibit in the 1958 Japan Fine Arts Exhibition with his first submission, "Flower vase". Later, he forged a new direction after deciding to apply the expression that he developed from painting into earthenware works. He won the Grand Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition in both 1964 and 1965. KATO continues to work in the world of contemporary ceramics, creating works imbued with a poetic clarity.
