Photographer, born 1940 in Tokyo. Araki enrolled in the Department of Photography and Printing Technology at Chiba University in 1959, and from 1962-72 worked as a cameraman for the advertising company Dentsu. In 1964, he won for the first time the Taiyo Prize with his photo collection “Sacchan.” In 1968, he met Yoko Aoki, who was also working at Dentsu, and they married 1971. He founded Arākī, Ltd., in 1981, and |
established AaR Room in 1988. In 1990, his wife Yoko passed away. In the following year, Araki published “Sentimental Journey / Winter Journey” with Shinchosha Publishing. Throughout the 1990s, Araki continued to work in a versatile manner and authored countless publications, making him one of the most widely recognized photographers in the world. |
