Kinosuke EBIHARA

Born in 1904 and a native of Kagoshima prefecture, Ebihara was active in France and Japan throughout the late Taisho (1912-1926) and Showa (1926-1989) periods. He frequently relied on an intense color he called “Ebihara blue,” and often chose horses for subject matter.

Ebihara closely associated with Léonard Tsugouharu Fujita (1886-1968), whom he considered a lifelong teacher. He passed away in 1970 while staying in Paris. Collections of his works are held at the Kagoshima City Museum of Art, the Kodama Art Museum, and the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art.
