Richard AVEDON

Photographer. Born 1923 in USA.
Born in New York to a family who ran a women's clothing store, Avedon was close to fashion magazines from a young age. In the 1940s, he learned photography from the Design Laboratory led by Alexey Brodovich, art director of Harper's Bazaar. After that, he worked as a staff photographer for Harper's Bazaar from 1946-1965. He was recognized as a fashion photographer and documentary photographer.

Moved to Vogue from 1966-1988, then to the New Yorker in 1992. The Whitney Museum held an Avedon retrospective in 1994, and the Met held "Richard Avedon: Portraits" from 2002-2003.
Passed away in 2004.
