Maurice TABARD

Born in France in 1897. He began to take photographs in his 20s while living in the United States, but returned to Paris in 1928 where worked in fashion and commercial photography. TABARD’s works are mostly surrealist, including many photo montages, solarizations, and photograms using multiple exposure. Many of his works are resplendent images featuring women.

He mainly worked for magazines such as Vu and Harper’s Bazaar. Although he has never had a solo exhibition in Japan, he has been a part of group exhibitions at the Meguro City Museum of Art and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. Most of his prewar photographs were lost to fire in the Second World War. He passed away in 1984.
