Louise Berliawsky NEVELSON |
Louise NEVELSON (Real name Lerh Berliawsky), the representative female sculptor of the United States, was born in Perislav, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine), and emigrated with her family to the United States in 1902. During 1950s she established her unique style of wooden box sculptures, mainly painted in black. |
Since then for over 20 years, she continued to produce works in a form of black boxes and increasing trashes, exhibiting them in exhibitions across the globe as well as displaying them as a public art. Born 23rd September 1900 and died 17th April 1988. |
