Shidu SHIMADA

Born 1923 in Karafuto (Present Sakhalin Island, Russia). Graduated from Oil painting course at Private Women's School of Fine Arts (Present Joshibi University of Art and Design) in 1942. Studied art history under Yaichi AIZU at Waseda University until 1945. She continued to produce works at Paris for over 20 years since 1958, presenting works with free forms with rich colors.

During her stay in Paris, she worked on lithographs and etchings, presenting her works at exhibitions sucha as Salon de Mai, Salon d'Automne and other École de Paris and Western painting circles. Returning to Japan in 1978, she has set up the atelier in the city of Zushi, Kanagawa with the view of Shonan coast. To the present day, she continues to present her works in solo exhibitions, without joining any particular artist group.
