Joel SHAPIRO |
Born in New York City in 1941. Graduated New York University with a Bachelors of Literature. Received a Masters in Literature from the same school in 1969. From 1969, took part in solo and group exhibitions in the USA and Europe. Taught at Princeton University from 1974-1976. In 1975, received grant from National Endowment for the Arts. Taught at School of Visual Arts in 1977. Currently resides in New York. |
Shapiro's work is characterized by the large forms made of simple rectangles. In Japan, his sculptures can be seen at the West Japan City Bank (designed by Isozaki Arata) in front of Hakata Station, and the Kawamura Museum. |
