This was the second postal mail work following Special Poem. This was planned for the canceled Fluxus Festival that was supposed to be held in Madrid in 1992. This portfolio version is what was published and mailed to the participants. First, the following invitation was mailed to the participants:

“On one plate on one scale, write what will balance with an opposing plate, which will be filled by another person. It can be an object or a concept, and writing a concrete weight is not necessary.”

Of course, at that point, nobody knew what anybody else was going to submit. The 68 participants gave answers reflecting their character. Spatial Poem was simply a panorama, but this work became a conceptual game playable by all. In 1995 I personally came up with the combinations and produced 10 boxed editions of 34 scales, which was not only exhibited in Japan, but was submitted to the Japanese-German Visual Poetry group exhibition and was displayed at several locations in Europe.

The portfolio contents include 1 photo of a balance scale, 68 cards provided by participants, 3 adjustment weights, a sheet containing an explanation of the game and the list of participants, a copy of the invitation letter, and 2 blank cards for the purchaser of the work to participate.
There is an edition of 750 (numbered only) and a special edition of 100 (signed and numbered). This is the special edition. (Text by SHIOMI Mieko)
