Born in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture in 1959. Painter and sculptor. After graduating from high school in Aomori, he entered Musashino Art University. After dropping out of the university, he completed the Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts and graduate school. After working as an art prep school instructor, he went to Germany from 1988 to 1993 and was enrolled in the German National Academy of Arts in Dusseldorf. In 1993, he studied under A.R.Penck, a leading contemporary German artist, and acquired Meister Schuler. Since 1994, he was based in Cologne for his creative activities. He left Cologne in August 2000 and returned to Japan to continue his creative activities. In 1995 he received the Nagoya City Art Encouragement Award. |

In 1998 he was apointed a guest professor for 3 months at UCLA, America. Based in Tokyo from 2000 to 2005. Bsed in Tochigi since 2005. He is one of the representative artists of the second generation of Japanese contemporary art, working internationally, his works are collectioned by major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. He is known for his drawings and paintings with acrylic paint with the motif of a girl with glaring eyes. |
