I was invited to participate in an exhibition of rubber stamps by Fluxus members proposed by the director of Stamp Art Gallery in San Francisco. They were meant to be editions of 2-4 stamps inside of a box. When considering the traits of stamps, I thought about how they can be pressed over and over, and how you can press them in any direction. Then, I decided to make a set of stamps for making infinite music, and came up with rules on how to put together 4 stamps of 4 connectable melodies. The rules are written on the inside of the lid. I heard that it is an edition of 50, but they’re not numbered. This work is one of the few that were sent to me. (Text by SHIOMI Mieko) |
