LY, short for La Monte Young, is an edition of booklets containing the instruction manual for the famous work “Composition 1961: Draw a straight line and follow it”. From “Composition 1961 No. 1 January 1 / Draw a straight line and follow it.” to “No. 29 December 31 / Draw a straight line and follow it.”, the exact same instruction is written for each day. This piece has been performed many times in Japan, but when reading along page by page, it feels almost like following the straight line he has drawn. There are 68 pages including blank ones. Included is an homage piece of a card the same size as the booklet with an infinite line on each side that is followed by a rhythm score. (Text by SHIOMI Mieko) |
