Eikoh Hosoe was deeply impressed by Gaudi’s architectural ensemble in Barcelona in 1964. 13 years later he started photographing them and showed them in “Homage to Gaudi” exhibition.

In part 1, we will exhibit his pictures which were taken and printed in 1977 - 1978. And in part 2 we will display his photographs which were made in 1984.

These vintage prints will appear for the first time in over 20 years and we hope the visitor of our exhibition will be impressed by them.

1933- EikohHosoe is born in Yonezawa, Yamagata prefecture ( real name Toshiro Hosoe ).
1952- His photograph, Padie-Chan wins the first prize in the student group of Fuji Photo Contest. The award encourages him to pursue photography seriously and later enroll at Tokyo College of photography.
1953- Joins the artist's group " Demokrato."
1954- Graduates from Tokyo College of Photography.
1956- First solo exhibition. " An American girl in Tokyo"
1963- Publishes the book "Barakei('Killed by Roses')" which features Yukio Mishima.
1969- Publishes the book "Kamaitachi" featuring TatsumiHijikata, Butoh dancer.
1971- Publishes newly designed version of Barakei ('Ordeal by Roses').
1975- Is offered a professorship at Tokyo College of Photography.
1998- Is awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal.
