NIZOE Marina
|
Born 1993, Tokyo. She grew up in Chatan-cho, Okinawa, and in 2010 enrolled in Okinawa Prefectural University of the Arts with a focus in Japanese Painting. In her third year, began researching Ryukyu painting. 2021, completed her PhD at the same school and now works there as part time teacher while being active as an artist in an out of Okinawa. Nizoe works with the singular theme of "paradise of flowers and birds in Ryukyu paintings". Intrigued by the way the flower and bird paintings of Ryukyu maintained the Chinese influence of depicting auspicious bird and flower combinations and how they were created with the hopes and wishes of people in mind, Nizoe creates works with her own arrangements of auspicious subjects that can speak to a modern audience. She actively incorporates Ryukyuan painting techniques, using traditional auspicious subjects to create modern Ryuku paintings of paradise, an experiment in tradition and innovation.(Source)
