Toshinobu ONOSATO
Born 1912 in Nagano, Japan. Onosato learned oil painting at Atelier Tsuda Seifu from 1931. In 1935 he established Kokushoku Youga Ten. In 1938 he became a member of Jiyu Bijutsuka Kyokai until he quitted in 1956. From then on, he was independent. He participated in the WW2 from 1941 in Manchuria, where he became a prisoner of war.

Detentioned in Siberia, he was not able to return to Japan until 1948. After returning to Japan, he continued to paint and print circles at his atelier in Kiryu. Represented Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1964 and 1966. Died in 1986 at the age of 74.
