A major figure of Modernist American architecture. Professor of architecture at Princeton University. Graves was born in Indianapolis in 1934. He studied architecture at Cincinnati University and Harvard, then entered the office of George Nelson. His major works include the Disney Headquarters and Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel. He has received the Gold Medal from the American Architects Association as well as National AIA Award, and in 1999 was granted the National Medal of Arts by President Clinton.

Graves was active in architecture and product design, and also created many drawings and prints in his lifetime. When he visited Japan in b1983, he created two woodblock prints with the ukiyo-e method. Many collectors go head to head to obtain the charming drawings which made Graves’ close friend and fellow architect Arata Isozaki to say, “He’s not an architect but an illustrator!”. Graves passed away in 2015.
