Hisashi MOMOSE

Born 1944 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Momose completed the program at Hokkaido University of Education, Asahikawa, and subsequently enrolled at Iwate University. Relying on silkscreen and NECO print technology, Momose opted for a particularly color-intense approach to printmaking. Since the 1980s, he worked with Japanese washi paper, and traditional “haku” gold and silver leaves, reinforcing the flatness of his compositions. On the formal plane, his works explore delicate gradations of strong colors.

Momose’s works at held a major public collection inside and outside of Japan, among them the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, and the National Galleries of Scotland. Furthermore, his works for public display at the Tokyo Midtown complex of 2007 attracted wide-ranging attention.
