Joel Shapiro Exhibition
Feb. 08[Fri.]― Feb. 23[Sat.], 2019
Gallery closed on Sunday, Monday, and national holidays.

Joel Shapiro, born 1941, is one of the sculptors who represents the United States.

Shapiro's work is characterized by the large forms made of simple rectangles.

In Japan, his sculptures can be seen at the West Japan City Bank (designed by Isozaki Arata) in front of Hakata Station, and the Kawamura Museum.

He also creates delicate drawings that differ from his sculptures, and prints with different characterstics as well (including silkscreens, lithographs, linocuts, aquatints, and pochoir).

In the past, Gallery Mukai has presented a Joel Shapiro exhibition in Japan, but they have been rare in recent years.

At this exhibition, we will present Shapiro's early lithographs from 1979-80, as well as a woodcut print he created with a mix of lumber like mhogany, cherry, and walnut.

※On Feb. 19 (Tues.), the gallery will close at 17:00. We apologize for the inconvenience.
