◆Toki-no-Wasuremono WEB EXHIBITION: Takuro NOGUCHIA descendant to a family of foil craftsmen in Nishijin, Kyoto, Noguchi uses traditional techniques of applying lacquer and metal foil to explore new modes of painterly expression. Having exhibited on art fairs in Seoul and Singapore, his work has been previously featured on the Japanese national television NHK. With his 'Landscape' series, collage-like arrangements of fragments inspired by nature, the 'Hanabi' (Fireworks) series, but also works based on motifs like the sea, sky, evening glows or stars, Noguchi's hakuga paintings are permeated with a sense of hope and beauty. Following our first Takuro Noguchi exhibition in 2012, this exhibition centers on twelve new works, among them several large-scale compositions from the 'Landscape' series. Takuro NOGUCHI (b. 1975) Born in Kyoto, Japan, Noguchi graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Kyoto University of Art and Design in 1993. From 2000-2001, he worked as an assistant for the photographer Shomei Tomatsu. As a 5th generation descendant of a family of foil craftsmen in the Nishijin district of Kyoto, Noguchi returned to his birthplace in 2001 to prepare for succeeding the family business. Since then, he has also launched his career as a 'hakuga' artist - the term 'hakuga' meaning that Noguchi creates paintings with lacquer and foil. |
