Born 1980, Imura began to take photographs at the age of 16, and began to publish those along her own essays in a self-made and hand-copied magazine titled “paper.” So far, she has produced 15 issues. In 2002, she participated in the 5th “Jugemu – Cloning” exhibition at Tomio Koyama Gallery (Shibuya). This was followed by “Jugemu 2004 – Super Multiple Art Project” at Contemporary Art Factory. Her first solo exhibition “Kazha Imura: Self-Portraits” (Japanese only) was held in the same year at Gallery Toki-no-Wasuremono.

Imura’s rather intense (?) photography and prose of “paper” and her own somewhat polished appearance are two poles that still await reconciliation. She first came to Toki-no-Wasuremono just one day before her high school graduation. Calling herself “Yayora,” Imura back then deeply admired the work of Yayoi Kusama. When she managed to get a picture together with Kusama at the retrospective at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art, it was as if a spell cast off of her. Meeting Kusama encouraged her to continue exploring her own modes of expression.
