Takao HIWASAKI

Born 1941 in Kouchi, Japan.
Graduated from Musashino Art School (former Musashino Art University). He participated in lectures by Umetarou AZECHI and Kiyomi KATO during the workshop held by Japan Artists Association. He returned to his homeland in 1964 and begun to learn a wood-engraving print through self-education, a style which was fading away at that time. Later on, he produced works such as "Rose in the Deeps" and "KALPA" known for their degree of perfection, using this wood engraving technique.

He has won the Japan Print Association's new face award in 1966, and the Japan Print Association award in 1967. In 1977 he joined the organisation of wood-engraving printers' asscociation "Nomi no kai (chisel association)". In 1991 he has won the grand prize for the Yamauchi Gen Award. Died at the age of 50 in 1992 due to the esophageal cancer.
